Pick up from Phonesavanh airport and transfer to your hotel in Phonesavanh - the new capital city of Xieng Khouang Province. Overnight at Phonesavanh.
After having breakfast, we will drive to Ban Thachok village . Upon arrival at this Hmong minority village, our trek will start by visiting a Hmong house surrounded by its peculiar fence of standing, exploded ordinance. Next, continue to trek along the trails to the village of Ban Namkha - a Khmu minority village of approximately 30 families who practice swidden agriculture and use the surrounding forests for hunting and trapping animals as well as gathering plants. After a short visit to this village, the trail travels along the river and then climbs up steadily through the slashed and burnt hills and the mixed jungle until we reach the highest point, the mysterious and famous jar site at Ban Pakao. We will have a chance to see the complete and incomplete ancient jars, which are scattered throughout the forest. There are more than 300 jars located at this fascinating and remote site. Have lunch at a Hmong minority village nearby. In the morning, we will walk about three hours to Ban Keokaola where we subsequently have dinner and stay overnight.
Today, we will start our second day trek from Ban Keokaola village to Ban Nakhou village - a Khmu minority village, passing by two Hmong villages situated in the remote highlands area. Continue trekking to Ban Mouang Thear - a Taidam (Black Tai) minority village in which the local people specialise in weaving cloth and bamboo. In the morning we will trek for a further three hours to reach Ban Namthoune - a Hmong hamlet for a little break. After a long journey of new, unexplored nature, our private car will pick you up to transfer to the hot springs in the late afternoon. Check-in at the Hot Springs Resort and enjoy bathing in the hot mineral spring water and enjoying the comforts of your room. Overnight at the Hot Springs Resort.
In the morning we will have free time to discover the hot springs before travelling by car to visit Tampaew – a historical martyr cave where over 300 villagers went into hiding, after being completely bombed out during the war. Have a delicious lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon we will return to Phonesavanh and visit the Plain of Jars, a large area extending around Phonesavanh in which hundreds of huge jars with unknown origin are scattered about in over a dozen groupings. If time permits, we will visit the Lao Sericulture Company at their silk farm and training centre, featuring mulberries, silk and tea, before being transferred to Phonesavanh airport for the departure flight to Vientiane.
