Luang Prabang - Ban Long Lao - Kuang Xi Waterfall
2 days / 1 night
Pick you up from your hotel and make a transfer about 40 minutes on a "dirt" road to the south-east to arrive in Ban Xeng Mouk village which is famous for its small pineapple and vegetable plantations. Here we will have a chance to learn more about life in this rural lowland Lao and Hmong community. Keep trekking about half an hour through paddy fields and pineapple gardens to admire a dense mixed growth jungle with a large variety of tree species.
After that, we will begin 2 hours of an up-and-down hike through the forest to reach the first peak of the mountain range. Enjoy the beautiful views of the surrounding landscape, the fresh air and the sounds of birds and insects while resting for a typical local picnic lunch. After a short relax, continue to walk up and down to come another peak. The forest is a bit sparser but it is a good chance to see a large number of wild animals.
On the way, we will cross a tiny settlement of 5 Hmong families before following a trail to approach Ban Nong Touk, surrounded by small corn and beautiful rice fields. The final stop of the day is a half hour walk to Ban Long Lao village in which we will stay overnight. We have the opportunity to observe the culture of the two ethnicities, Hmong and Khmu and know more about their daily life.
After breakfast, we will follow a trail to reach some forests with steeper parts. On the way, a cave is discovered which was served as a bomb shelter for the villagers living in this valley during the Second Indochina War.
Keeping trekking one more hours will take us to Kuang Xi Waterfall - a beautiful pool which is full of big sacred fish before having a Lao-style lunch is served in the lush forest setting around the waterfall.
In the afternoon, we will have free time to bathe and relax by the turquoise pools below. It is worth to drop by at the Bear Rescue Center close to the entrance gate in which more than 10 animals, sun bears and Malayan black bears are cared for after they've been rescued from bile farms or wildlife traffickers. We can walk around nearby Ban Thapene - a Khmu village that lies nestled around some of the nicest pools of Tad Kuang Xi. We will return to Luang Prabang by songtheaw around 18.00P.M
