Pick up from the airport and transfer to your centrally located hotel. After a short break, we will start discovering the charming and fascinating capital with an interesting mix of Lao, Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, French, and American influences. We will visit major highlights, including Wat Sisaket - the oldest temple with thousands of miniature Buddha statues, and the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo, which previously housed the well-known Emerald Buddha Image. After that, we will explore Lao’s national icon - the precious and sacred structure of That Luang Stupa. We will have a chance to take some beautiful pictures of the imposing Patuxay Monumentthat is known as Vientiane’s own Arc de Triumph. The Mekong riverside will be an ideal place to finish the first day by admiring the sunset. Overnight in Vientiane.
In the morning, we will visit the Morning Market, a mecca for those who enjoy traditional handicrafts. Here we will see a variety of silk, jewellery, wood carvings, textiles and wood products, and you can buy some souvenirs for your friends and loved ones. The next stop is Laos Textile Studio owned by Ms. Carol Cassidy, an American textiles expert who arrived in Vientiane in 1989 as part of a United Nations project to promote traditional weaving. We will learn how she and her team protect this traditional craft. In the afternoon, transfer to the airport for a 45 min flight to Xieng Khouang, home of the enigmatic and historic Plain of Jars and a place that suffered heavy bombing during the Vietnam War. Xieng Khouang is located in the highlands of north eastern Laos, around 1,200m above sea level. Upon arrival, we will be picked by our guide and transferred to the hotel for check-in. After breakfast, we will drive around 10km to the Plain of Jars - an archaeological spectacle where giant stone jars dating back at least 2,000 years are scattered around the area. Although the jars are believed to have been used as funeral urns, its history remains a mystery to this day. After that, we will transfer about 1.5 hours to the district of Muang Kham. On the way we will visit different hill tribe villages such as Tai Dam and H’mong. The trip will finish by meeting the head of MAG (Mine Advisory Group) at their camp where we will learn about MAG's current projects to protect the local community from the destruction caused by unexploded mines, which still plague the country. In the late morning, we will return to the hotel. Overnight in Xieng Khouang.
Today, we will have free time to discover Phonesavanh - the new capital city of Xieng Khouang province before being transferred to the airport for the flight to Vientiane. End of services.
